Education and Outreach

From the board room to the faculty room, wellness is becoming a more prominent discussion in today's educational settings.  And there's good reason backed by research. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from elementary schools to college campuses, students who are healthier learn better, and academic achievement is strongly tied to better health outcomes across a person's lifetime.

Brain-based science and health and fitness guidelines both suggest that students who are more physically active, perform better at school in general.  In fact, even short recess breaks, that increase students' physical activity, have been shown to improve attention, concentration, and memory. And while physical movement has proven to improve students' abilities to stay on-task in the classroom rand reduce disruptive behaviors, it has also been linked to improvements in their social and emotional development as well.

As many professional educators know well, some of an adult's biggest life lessons are learned from the children they are tasked with teaching.  Although adults are capable of sitting still for longer periods of time than their younger counterparts, a short break including physical input can help adults as much as it helps children.

Many schools are looking for ways to communicate appreciation, create community, and support the health and resilience of their staff.  And when it comes to creating a culture of wellness, the healthiest school environments practice what they preach. After all, we want our children to be healthy, focused, and resilient, but children will do what we do, not what we say.

Our caring team of professionals offer massage, yoga, and mindfulness practices that can make your next in-service education or staff development day really memorable.  We also offer specially-tailored, developmentally appropriate mind-body practices for children of all ages. Contact us to find out how we can help you to create a culture of wellness within your educational setting.

“One of my many roles as the Administrator of a private school offering education from early childhood through middle school, includes planning professional development and inservice trainings that satisfy a range of needs for our faculty and staff. Including wellness activities, such as yoga and chair massage, has improved both employee attendance and satisfaction at these events. The services Lisa has provided helped promote the experience of connection and inclusivity our school strives to uphold, and I would encourage other schools consider similar programming to contract with Well Connected Therapies.”

“Our Brownie-level Girl Scout Troop girls were struggling to find a calmness in body and mind as they moved into the early stages of puberty. We asked Nicole to lead a Yoga class to help with a badge achievement, and to introduce the girls to the idea of mind-body awareness. engaging, relatable, and most importantly, warm and welcoming. We’ll meet you at the front ofNicole led an age-appropriate class for a group of 9 girls and 4 adult leaders. She was the mat any time, Nicole! Thanks again for being awesome.”
