Breathing Practices

The breath is our most immediate and accessible gateway linking the body and the mind. The quality of each breath, from moment to moment, significantly impacts our physical health, presence of mind, and emotional state.

Did you know that the muscles of respiration are directly related to spinal posture?  These important muscles are less effective when a person is in forward-leaning positions, common when seated at computers, when driving, or when using hand-held devices.  It has been shown that poor posture can decrease oxygen intake, which can lower energy.  Poor posture can also increase resting heart-rate, raising perceived stress-levels.  Furthermore, it has been shown to impair an individual's response time, which has negative impacts on decision making and communication tasks.

Did you know that practicing slow, calm, smooth, and efficient breathing patterns, even for short periods of time, can improve attention, confidence, listening, learning, emotional regulation, and productivity?
